Updates and Expansions Winners (Gold, Silver, Bronze)
Updates and expansions are one of the clearest indicators of a game’s health. In an indie TCG, shipping meaningful new content (or improving how players interact with the game) is a signal that a project is actively supported, responsive to its community, and building toward long-term sustainability.
For the Updates and Expansions category, we evaluated each nominee’s 2025 activity using public-facing release information and measurable scope signals, including:
-
clarity and specificity of what changed or released
-
how substantial the update/expansion is for players
-
evidence of delivery and ongoing support
-
how directly the update improves play, onboarding, or accessibility
Private roadmap statements and closed community channels were not used in scoring. This award is focused on what players can reasonably access, verify, and experience.
Below are the three winners and why they placed.
First Place (Gold): Powerline Ultra
Mega Tabletop Simulator Update
Why Powerline Ultra won Gold:
Powerline Ultra earns Gold for delivering the most clearly defined, high-impact update of the year: a major Tabletop Simulator release described as a “mega update,” aimed directly at improving how the game is played online. For a modern indie TCG, that kind of accessibility upgrade is not a side feature, it is a major pillar of growth.
What stood out
-
A player-impacting update, not just “more cards.” This release focuses on improving the experience of actually playing the game, especially for remote players and communities that organize online.
-
Concrete usability improvements. A major TTS update that adds play aids and structure makes games easier to run, easier to teach, and more consistent across groups.
-
A sign of long-term support. Maintaining a polished digital play environment takes ongoing effort, and it shows that the game is being treated like a living product, not a one-time drop.
Powerline Ultra won Gold because it delivered the most substantial, player-facing quality-of-life expansion in 2025, and one that directly strengthens the game’s ability to grow and stay accessible.
Second Place (Silver): System Gate
Booster Pack 12
Why System Gate won Silver:
System Gate takes Silver for a clear, traditional TCG expansion win: a new booster release that demonstrates consistent cadence and ongoing content support. In a category about expansions, nothing matters more than the ability to keep the game fresh while maintaining identity and balance.
What stood out
-
A clear expansion unit players understand. New booster releases are the core heartbeat of most TCG ecosystems.
-
Ongoing cadence and product direction. Booster Pack 12 is a signal that the game is past the “concept” phase and operating like an actual supported card game line.
-
Healthy growth over time. Regular expansions give players reasons to revisit deckbuilding, refine strategies, and stay engaged with the meta.
System Gate earned Silver because it represents consistency and real product momentum, exactly what players want to see from an indie TCG building long-term trust.
Third Place (Bronze): Necromansters
Team Mythic Plus
Why Necromansters won Bronze:
Necromansters earns Bronze for expanding its ecosystem with a clear “add-on” style release that supports variety and continued discovery. Where many indie projects struggle to build beyond their initial concept, Necromansters has shown intent to grow the game through additional content that complements the core experience.
What stood out
-
Expansions that build on the game’s identity. Team Mythic Plus is positioned as additive content that deepens the product offering without requiring players to relearn the entire game.
-
Momentum and follow-through. Expansion announcements and delivery signals matter. This placement recognizes an active content pipeline and an intent to support the player base beyond a single release.
-
A strong foundation for future growth. Indie TCGs that successfully ship early expansions tend to establish better player confidence, because they prove the game will continue evolving.
Necromansters takes Bronze because it shows tangible expansion effort in 2025 and a clear direction toward building a larger ecosystem around the game.

Closing
Updates and expansions are how indie TCGs prove they are alive. They show that a team is listening, iterating, and giving players reasons to keep returning to the table.
-
Powerline Ultra (Gold) leads with a major play-experience upgrade that strengthens accessibility and long-term growth.
-
System Gate (Silver) earns its placement through a clear, traditional expansion cadence that supports ongoing meta and deckbuilding evolution.
-
Necromansters (Bronze) secures third by expanding its ecosystem and showing momentum beyond its core release.
Congratulations to all three teams. Shipping is hard, and consistent support is harder. These projects delivered meaningful progress this year.
